Dress Forms | Professional Sewing & Design Mannequins
Our adjustable dress form gives you the precision you need for garment construction and fitting. This full-torso mannequin features 13-dial adjustment points that dial in to match standard size ranges from 2 to 18, with shoulder, bust, waist, and hip measurements you can lock in place for consistent draping sessions. The heavy-duty foam core maintains its shape under repeated pinning, while the breathable linen-blend cover grips pins securely without tearing.
The weighted chrome tripod base adjusts from 52 to 68 inches in height, and four caster wheels let you roll your work-in-progress to different lighting angles or tuck the form into a corner when you’re done. We designed this for home sewists who need professional results without the footprint or price tag of industrial studio equipment.
Construction & adjustability

Dial Adjustment & Size Range
Each Joann’s dress form uses a dial-and-lock system that lets you set precise measurements without the guesswork of slide bars or tape. Turn the numbered dial at each adjustment point — bust, waist, hips, shoulders — until the indicator lands on your target size, then twist the lock ring to hold it in place. The adjustable models span a full size range in one form, so you can fit garments for different clients or body types without storing multiple mannequins.
Our standard adjustable form covers women’s sizes 2 through 18, the plus-size model extends to size 26, and the child form handles kids’ sizes 4 through 12. Each size increment clicks into place with tactile feedback, and the measurement chart printed on the tripod base cross-references dial numbers to bust-waist-hip dimensions in inches. This system gives you repeatable accuracy — you can remove a garment mid-session, dial the form back to those exact settings the next day, and pick up where you left off without re-measuring.

Pinnable Cover & Core Construction
Cover Fabric
The linen-polyester blend cover on our adult dress forms strikes a balance between pin grip and durability. Linen’s natural texture holds straight pins and T-pins securely without requiring you to push hard, and the polyester threads prevent the weave from splitting after hundreds of pinning cycles. The cover stretches slightly to conform to the adjusted shape underneath, but it won’t sag or wrinkle like pure cotton.
Foam Core
Inside, a closed-cell foam core maintains its shape under the outward pressure of adjustment dials and the repeated punctures from pinning. This foam is denser than upholstery foam but softer than the solid fiberglass cores in industrial forms, so pins slide in and out cleanly without blunting. The core’s compression resistance means the form won’t develop dents or flat spots even after years of use, and it’s light enough that you can tip the whole assembly onto two wheels and roll it across a room without straining your back.
Base Stability & Height Adjustment
The chrome tripod base on every Joann’s dress form uses a three-point footprint that distributes weight evenly, preventing the form from tipping when you drape heavy fabric over one shoulder. Each leg ends in a dual-wheel caster with a foot-operated lock — step on the lever to freeze the wheels, step again to release. This lets you position the form exactly where you need it, lock it down for fitting work, then unlock and roll it out of the way without bending over to flip manual locks.
Height adjustment happens on the center pole: loosen the twist collar, slide the pole to your preferred working height, then tighten the collar until it grips. The standard form adjusts from 52 to 68 inches (measured from floor to neck), the plus-size model ranges from 54 to 70 inches, and the child form telescopes from 38 to 50 inches. Taller height settings let you fit floor-length gowns without the hem dragging, and shorter settings bring the shoulder line down to a comfortable pinning height if you’re working seated. The center pole is powder-coated steel, not hollow aluminum, so it won’t flex or wobble when you’re wrestling a fitted bodice onto the form.

Dress Form Fitting & Setup Questions
Measure your bust, waist, and hip circumferences with a flexible measuring tape, then compare those numbers to the adjustment range printed on each form’s product page. The standard adjustable form covers sizes 2 through 18 (bust 32–44 inches, waist 24–38 inches, hips 34–46 inches). The plus-size model extends to size 26 (bust 44–54 inches, waist 38–48 inches, hips 46–56 inches). If your measurements fall near the top of one range and the bottom of the next, choose the larger form for more comfortable adjustment.
The child form covers kids’ sizes 4 through 12, based on standard children’s sizing charts. If you’re making garments for multiple people or clients, the adjustable adult forms let you dial between sizes without buying separate mannequins for each body type.
Yes. The linen-polyester cover and foam core are designed to hold pins for extended periods without losing grip or developing holes. We recommend removing pins from areas where you’ve repeatedly pinned and re-pinned in the exact same spot over many projects, as the cover fabric will eventually show wear in high-traffic pin zones, but occasional overnight or week-long pinning won’t damage the form.
For long-term storage of a garment on the form, use T-pins or ball-head pins rather than fine dressmaker pins — the larger heads are easier to see and less likely to work their way into the foam core. Always unpin the garment before adjusting the form’s dials, since changing the form’s dimensions while fabric is pinned in place can stretch the cover or bend the pins.
The tripod base works on both surfaces, but the caster wheels perform differently depending on your flooring. On hard floors — wood, tile, laminate — the wheels roll smoothly and the locks hold firmly. On carpet, the wheels sink slightly into the pile, which actually increases stability during fitting work but makes rolling the form a bit harder. If you’re working on thick carpet or a rug, you may prefer to leave the wheels locked and tilt the form onto two legs to reposition it rather than trying to roll it.
The three-point footprint distributes weight evenly on any surface, so the form won’t tip even on plush carpet as long as you’re not hanging extremely heavy garments all on one side. The weighted base adds enough mass that the center of gravity stays low, and the 24-inch leg spread gives you a stable platform for garments up to heavy wool coats.
The plus-size form has a reinforced foam core with higher density to support the drape and weight of larger garments without compressing. The internal structure is also thicker at the waist and hips to handle the outward pressure from the wider adjustment dials. The tripod base on the plus-size model has a slightly heavier weighted ring to counterbalance the larger torso volume and prevent tipping.
Both forms use the same dial-and-lock adjustment system, the same linen-polyester cover fabric, and the same chrome tripod with locking casters. The plus-size model’s height range starts 2 inches taller (54 inches minimum versus 52 inches) to match average proportions for larger body types. If your measurements fall within the standard form’s range, there’s no advantage to buying the plus-size model, but if you’re near the top of the standard range or anticipate needing flexibility into plus sizes, the reinforced construction on the larger form is worth the extra cost.
No. Always unpin the garment before turning any adjustment dials. The foam core expands or contracts when you change the dial settings, and if fabric is pinned tightly across the form, the expanding foam can stretch the garment’s fabric or pull the cover material taut enough to tear. Pins can also bend or snap if they’re caught between the moving foam and the pinned fabric.
The correct workflow is to set the form to your target measurements first, lock all the dials, then drape and pin your garment. If you need to check the fit at a different size, unpin the garment, adjust the form, re-pin, and evaluate. The dial system holds settings reliably, so you can return to a previous size by turning the dials back to the same numbers without re-measuring.
Spot-clean the linen-polyester cover with a damp cloth and mild detergent for small marks or dust. For deeper cleaning, remove the cover by unsnapping it from the bottom hem and hand-wash it in cool water with gentle soap, then air-dry it flat before re-snapping it onto the form. Do not machine-wash or machine-dry the cover, as the heat can shrink the fabric and the agitation can fray the edges.
The foam core itself doesn’t need cleaning under normal use, but if you spill liquid on it, blot it immediately with a dry towel and let the foam air-dry completely before replacing the cover. Avoid using harsh solvents or bleach on either the cover or the foam, as they can degrade the fabric fibers and break down the foam’s cellular structure.
Yes. The widest point on any of our dress forms is the tripod base at 24 inches in diameter, which fits comfortably through a standard 32-inch residential doorway with room to spare. The forms roll on casters, so you can wheel them from a sewing room to a fitting room or a different lighting area without disassembling anything.
If you need to move the form up or down stairs, the torso lifts off the tripod pole and the legs fold inward, reducing the assembly to two compact pieces you can carry separately. The adult forms’ torsos weigh between 12 and 18 pounds depending on the model, and the tripod base weighs about 10 pounds, so one person can move the entire setup without help.
